 BILL NUMBER: SR 73ENROLLED BILL TEXT ADOPTED IN SENATE MAY 2, 2016 ADOPTED IN ASSEMBLY APRIL 21, 2016 INTRODUCED BY Senators Nguyen, Beall, and Pan APRIL 21, 2016 Relative to o D i Day LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST WHEREAS, The Month of May has been designated as Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month; and WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans living in California and elsewhere in the United States desire to contribute to and share their cultural heritage with the City of San Jose, the County of Orange, and other municipalities in the United States; and WHEREAS, The Vietnamese traditional long gown, known as the o D i, has long been recognized as the symbol of cultural aesthetics and pride of people of Vietnamese descent; and WHEREAS, To contribute to the people of the City of San Jose and the County of Orange, and to celebrate the diversity of American society, the Vietnamese American community has held a community event known as the o D i Festival on a biennial basis; and WHEREAS, The o D i Festival will be held in San Jose during Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in 2016; and WHEREAS, The Vietnamese American community desires to designate a special day to invite all residents of California to share in its cultural heritage by wearing the Vietnamese o D i; and WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans now petition that May 15th be designated as o D i Day; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That May 15, 2016, shall be recognized as o D i Day; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for distribution.
