Section 131086 is added to the Health and Safety Code, to read:131086. The department shall conduct a study to determine the noise and vibration levels associated with all railroad lines in the vicinity of residential areas or schools. The study shall include a finding as to how many miles of railroad lines in this state have an average day-night sound level (Ldn ) in excess of 60 decibels. The department may use statistical sampling techniques to determine those noise and vibration levels.SECTION 1.Section 14035.6 is added to the Government Code, to read:14035.6.The department shall conduct a study to determine the noise and vibration levels, associated with the operation of state-funded intercity rail passenger services, that impact residential areas or schools along railroad lines where the department contracts for those services pursuant to Section 14035. The department may use statistical sampling techniques to determine those noise and vibration levels.
