Digest KeyBill TextWHEREAS, There have been numerous reports of kidnaping, violence, and murder against the LGBT community in Chechnya, perpetrated by the government of Chechnya; andWHEREAS, The United States Ambassador to the United Nations called upon Chechen authorities to investigate these allegations; andWHEREAS, The State of California calls on Chechen authorities to immediately investigate allegations of violence against the LGBT community, hold those involved accountable, and take steps to prevent future abuses; andWHEREAS, California must defend human rights for those who cannot; andWHEREAS, California has a proud history of standing up for the rights of persons of diverse backgrounds; andWHEREAS, California is home to over 1.5 million members of the LGBT community; and WHEREAS, California calls upon the international community to investigate and take action against those responsible; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly condemns the alleged violence, kidnaping, and abuse of LGBT members in Chechnya; and be it furtherResolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution. |
