Medical nutrition therapy is a cost-effective medium of health care that can curtail a wide variety of illnesses and diet-related complications and promote recovery from injuries; andWHEREAS, Registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered, serve a vital role in our state as members of health care teams who work with physicians and other professionals to provide high-quality health care to our citizens; andWHEREAS, Many of the leading causes of death in the United States are related to diet. Nutritional assessment and counseling help to reduce the incidence and prevalence of these diseases and to improve the conditions of people who are suffering from these maladies; andWHEREAS, National Nutrition Month provides an opportunity for citizens across our state to educate themselves regarding nutrition and the major role it plays in our lives and to express appreciation to those who work in that field for their hard work and many accomplishments; andWHEREAS, National Nutrition Month is another example of how registered dietitian technicians and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered, play a crucial role in health care advocacy and will continue to do so in the coming years; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby declares the month of March 2017 as National Nutrition Month and encourages citizens to seek nutritional education; and be it furtherResolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
