Existing law requires the state board, on or before July 1, 2020, to adopt a definition of microplastics in drinking water, as provided. Existing law requires the Ocean Protection Council, to the extent funds are available, to adopt and implement a Statewide Microplastics Strategy related to microplastic materials that pose an emerging concern for ocean health, as provided.This bill, beginning January 1, 2022, would require all washing machines owned or operated by a state entity, as defined, to include a microfiber filter, and would require state entities to install a microfiber filter on any washing machines owned or operated by the state entity before January 1, 2022.
