Digest KeyBill TextWHEREAS, Latinos have always been major contributors to Californias history since the inception of our state in 1850, and their population is growing every year; andWHEREAS, Thirty-nine percent of Californians identify as Latino as of July 2018, a higher percentage than any other ethnicity of color; andWHEREAS, The Department of Finance estimates that between 2016 and 2030, the states general population will increase by 4,800,000 people, including 3,600,000 Latinos. Between 2030 and 2060, the general population is expected to increase by another 7,600,000 people, including 6,500,000 Latinos; andWHEREAS, Latinas have showcased their great strength and talent in every discipline and field they indulge in, including the sciences, arts, and politics; andWHEREAS, Great female leaders like Ellen Ochoa, Dolores Huerta, and Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, who have had the courage to rise up, defy the norms, and represent proudly their Latino counterparts, have inspired Latina Action Day, celebrating its 25th year this May; andWHEREAS, Every year, over 400 Latinas from all over California convene in Sacramento for Latina Action Day, an annual public policy issues conference organized by the nonprofit organization, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality; andWHEREAS, For 30 years, this one-day conference has created an opportunity for dialogue between corporate, community, and elected Latina officials to discuss current issues and policies affecting Californias women of color; andWHEREAS, This conference also creates an opportunity for young Latina leaders to gain firsthand experience of advocacy by allowing them to speak to different representatives and voice their concerns on issues affecting their communities; andWHEREAS, It is important that we continue to recognize and support the efforts of our women of color to enable future generations to continue to follow in their footsteps and make a difference in their communities; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly hereby acknowledges May 23, 2019, as Latina Action Day and encourages the people of the State of California to recognize and support the continuous work and commitment of all Latina leaders in our communities; and be it furtherResolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.

WHEREAS, Latinos have always been major contributors to Californias history since the inception of our state in 1850, and their population is growing every year; and
