Digest KeyBill TextWHEREAS, Candy and confection manufacturers are an integral part of the heritage of the United States and continue to create jobs and grow markets; andWHEREAS, California has a tradition of candy manufacturing that dates back before statehood and that tradition continues to grow and prosper; andWHEREAS, In making chocolate, candy, gum, and mints, the industry plays an important role in the economies of the United States and California with well over 100 manufacturing facilities in the state; andWHEREAS, One United States confectionary manufacturing job supports 10 other jobs in the economy; andWHEREAS, The candy industry creates over 83,000 total jobs and nearly 22,000 direct jobs in California; andWHEREAS, The candy industry is committed to its Always A Treat initiative; providing consumers with smaller pack sizes, portion guidance, and clear calorie labels on the front of packs; andWHEREAS, The candy industry has a long-standing history of corporate social responsibility and sustainability innovation; andWHEREAS, Candy is a special treat that has played an important role in cultural traditions and seasonal celebrations for many years, and most people enjoy candy two to three times per week for an average of 40 calories per day; andWHEREAS, June is recognized as National Candy Month in the United States; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate declares June 2019 to be officially recognized as California Candy Month; and be it furtherResolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution. |
