American Eagle Day. This measure would proclaim June 20, 2022, as American Eagle Day to commemorate the anniversary of the bald eagles selection as the national emblem of the United States of America and would urge Californians to observe the American values, ideals, and attributes symbolized by the American bald eagle.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, American Eagle Day is a special day to commemorate the anniversary of the bald eagles selection as our national symbol and to celebrate its return to Americas skies; andWHEREAS, The first American Eagle Day was celebrated on June 20, 1995, by President Bill Clinton, however, the American bald eagle has been a treasured symbol of the United States since the 1700s; andWHEREAS, The bald eagle was named the national emblem of the United States in 1782, and its image is used throughout the country as a symbol of this great nation; andWHEREAS, The image of the bald eagle can be found on gold coins, the silver dollar, the half dollar, the quarter, and on the Great Seal of the United States; andWHEREAS, The American bald eagle is the only eagle unique to North America, and it can be found all over the continent, from Alaska to Northern Mexico; andWHEREAS, It is also one of the largest birds in North America, with an average wingspan of 80 inches, and it builds massive nests that are four to six feet in diameter; andWHEREAS, Not too long ago, the future of the bald eagle seemed dire; however, due to the hard work of conservationists, and the birds classification as an endangered species, the bald eagle has made a remarkable comeback and was removed from the national threatened and endangered species lists; andWHEREAS, Despite the great recovery of the birds population, there is still work to be done to remove debris that poses a serious threat to its habitat; andWHEREAS, Californians are encouraged to seek out local preservation groups in their area and to offer to lend a hand within their communities to preserve the precious habitats of American bald eagles; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes June 20, 2022, as American Eagle Day, and urges all Californians to observe the American values, ideals, and attributes for which it stands; and be it furtherResolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution. |
