Digest KeyBill TextWHEREAS, Human trafficking is a heinous crime that exploits men, women, and children for forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation; andWHEREAS, Raising public awareness about human trafficking is essential to combating this crime and aiding its victims; andWHEREAS, The California Trucking Association, in partnership with Truckers Against Trafficking, has demonstrated a commitment to combating human trafficking through education, awareness, and prevention efforts; andWHEREAS, Truckers Against Trafficking has successfully trained 1,725,947 industry professionals, including 1,946 law enforcement officers, providing them with the tools to recognize and report signs of human trafficking; andWHEREAS, Truckers, being the ears and eyes on the road, play a crucial role in identifying and reporting potential cases of human trafficking, contributing significantly to the fight against this crime; andWHEREAS, Members of the California Trucking Association have generously donated time and resources, including hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years, to combat human trafficking, demonstrating their dedication to making a positive impact in the community; now, therefore be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly hereby designates the month of January 2024 as National Human Trafficking Awareness Month; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly commends the California Trucking Association and Truckers Against Trafficking for their outstanding efforts and the significant impact they have made in training industry professionals and law enforcement officers to combat human trafficking; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly recognizes the vital role of truckers as the eyes and ears on the road, contributing to the identification and reporting of potential cases of human trafficking; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly expresses gratitude to the members of the California Trucking Association for their continued commitment and generous contributions in the fight against human trafficking; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations to participate in awareness and prevention activities organized by the California Trucking Association and Truckers Against Trafficking; and be it furtherResolved, That the Assembly calls upon the community to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of human trafficking to law enforcement authorities; and be it furtherResolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
