Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.This measure would designate the month of February 2025 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, One in three adolescents will experience dating abuse before high school graduation; andWHEREAS, Young people are impacted by abusive relationships and may be threatened with or subjected to physical violence, sexual violence, psychological aggression, or stalking from a current or former intimate partner; andWHEREAS, Dating violence can also occur digitally through social media and other electronic communication in the form of cyberstalking, nonconsensual distribution of intimate images, and other technology-facilitated harms; andWHEREAS, Young people experiencing abusive relationships are more likely to be vulnerable to long-term behavioral and health consequences, including mental trauma and drug abuse; andWHEREAS, Trauma from adolescent domestic violence increases the risk of violence in adulthood and future relationships; andWHEREAS, It is crucial to educate young people about the signs of domestic violence to set them up for success by allowing them to recognize for themselves what healthy, nonviolent relationships look like; andWHEREAS, Black Women Revolt Against Domestic Violence and the Asian Womens Shelter in San Francisco shall partner with the San Francisco Youth Commission to host a Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month event and online awareness campaign to raise awareness about the impact of teen dating violence; andWHEREAS, The San Francisco Youth Commission will recognize the month of February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month in the city and county of San Francisco in an effort to affirm the right of all young people to experience healthy relationships free from dating abuse in adolescence and beyond; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Assembly proclaims the month of February 2025 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month to encourage and facilitate the education of teen dating violence for all young people in California; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.

WHEREAS, One in three adolescents will experience dating abuse before high school graduation; and

WHEREAS, Young people are impacted by abusive relationships and may be threatened with or subjected to physical violence, sexual violence, psychological aggression, or stalking from a current or former intimate partner; and

WHEREAS, Dating violence can also occur digitally through social media and other electronic communication in the form of cyberstalking, nonconsensual distribution of intimate images, and other technology-facilitated harms; and

WHEREAS, Young people experiencing abusive relationships are more likely to be vulnerable to long-term behavioral and health consequences, including mental trauma and drug abuse; and

WHEREAS, Trauma from adolescent domestic violence increases the risk of violence in adulthood and future relationships; and

WHEREAS, It is crucial to educate young people about the signs of domestic violence to set them up for success by allowing them to recognize for themselves what healthy, nonviolent relationships look like; and
