March4Water Month.This measure would declare the month of March to be March4Water Month in California and would encourage all Californians to participate in activities and programs during March4Water Month to promote awareness, education, and actions that prioritize water as a vital resource for the states future.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, Water is an essential resource for sustaining life, promoting public health, and ensuring economic prosperity in California; andWHEREAS, California has faced ongoing challenges related to water, including droughts, water scarcity, infrastructure needs, and water quality issues that require immediate and sustained attention; andWHEREAS, Aging infrastructure combined with increasingly severe weather events exacerbated by the effects of climate change pose significant challenges to our water systems; andWHEREAS, An estimated 2.2 million Americans lack access to safe water and sanitation while 6 to 10 million lead service lines remain in use across the United States, many of which are in underserved communities; andWHEREAS, The month of March provides a unique opportunity to align local efforts with global movements, such as World Plumbing Day, celebrated annually on March 11 to recognize the critical role of plumbing in protecting public health and advancing access to clean water and sanitation; andWHEREAS, March also includes World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, as declared by the United Nations to highlight the importance of water and advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources worldwide; andWHEREAS, The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials is headquartered in California, playing a critical role in addressing water-related challenges by advancing safe and sustainable water systems through the development of standards and codes, education, and advocacy; andWHEREAS, March4Water Month will serve as a platform for communities, organizations, and governmental agencies to raise awareness about water conservation, equitable access to clean and safe drinking water, and the importance of investing in water infrastructure and sustainability efforts; andWHEREAS, Community engagement and education are critical to fostering a culture of water stewardship and advancing innovative solutions to California's water challenges; andWHEREAS, The designation of March as March4Water Month highlights the collective need for action, collaboration, and advocacy among policymakers, stakeholders, and residents of California; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby declares the month of March to be March4Water Month in California; and be it furtherResolved, That the Legislature encourages all Californians to participate in activities and programs during March4Water Month to promote awareness, education, and actions that prioritize water as a vital resource for the states future; and be it furtherResolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
