1313 WHEREAS, Since the Revolutionary War, more than one million1
1414 American soldiers have died in battle and military conflicts; their2
1515 families, who have endured these losses and the accompanying grief, are3
1616 known as Gold Star Families; and4
1717 WHEREAS, Named for the practice of families hanging service5
1818 banners in the windows of their homes with a star for each family6
1919 member in the Armed Forces, deep blue stars were displayed for each7
2020 living member serving, and they were replaced with gold if their loved8
2121 one lost his or her life serving our country and protecting our freedom;9

2323 WHEREAS, Grace Darling Seibold founded the American Gold11

6155 WHEREAS, Long after the battles have ended, as our stars and16
6256 stripes of liberty fly, the families who have at home a folded flag and an17
6357 empty seat at the table deserve our respect and our support; now,18

6559 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-third20
6660 General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:21
6761 That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, honor22
6862 the pride and the pain of the parents and partners and children and23
6963 siblings of our fallen heroes and recognize the families of these proud24
7064 patriots with an expression of profound gratitude and respect.25
7165 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent26
7266 to the commanders of the American Legion Posts in Colorado; the27
7367 commanders of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Colorado; the28
7468 commanders of Colorado's active military bases; the Pikes Peak Chapter29
7569 of Gold Star Mothers; the Denver Chapter of Gold Star Wives; and the30
7670 chapters of the Blue Star Mothers of Colorado.31
