1010 WHEREAS, Our respected colleague, Kimmi J. Lewis, a member1
1111 of the Colorado General Assembly, departed this life on December 6,2
1212 2019; and3
1313 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis was born on March 19, 1957,4
1414 in La Junta, Colorado, to Kenneth and Jewell Clark; and5
1515 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis was raised on her family's6
1616 cattle ranch halfway between Kim and La Junta, Colorado, where she and7
1717 her three older sisters worked as ranch hands; and8
1818 WHEREAS, While attending Kim High School, Representative9
1919 Lewis started her first cow herd, was the Most Valuable Basketball Player10
2020 in the women's "A" division, and was the Colorado Hereford Queen; and11
2121 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis attended Trinidad State Junior12
2222 College on a basketball scholarship where she majored in music; and13
2323 WHEREAS, In 1975, Representative Lewis married George David14

4031 WHEREAS, In 1992, Representative Lewis and her husband4
4132 purchased her family's ranch and operated it along with a cattle and feed5

4334 WHEREAS, After her husband Dave's death in 2000,7
4435 Representative Lewis ran both businesses and raised her children, sending8
4536 all six of them to college on academic and athletic scholarships; and9
4637 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis was an active member of the10
4738 Las Animas Republican party and for 30 years served as the President of11
4839 the Trinidad/Las Animas County Republican Women's Club and for many12
4940 years served as the Chair for Senate District 2; and13
5041 WHEREAS, In 2016, Representative Lewis ran for and was14
5142 elected to the State House of Representatives where she served as the15
5243 Representative for House District 64, and was reelected to a second term16
5344 in 2018; and17
5445 WHEREAS, While serving as a State Representative,18
5546 Representative Lewis served on several committees, including19
5647 Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources; Public Heath Care and20
5748 Human Services; Transportation and Energy; Rural Affairs and21
5849 Agriculture; and Transportation and Local Government, and sponsored22
5950 bills on beef country-of-origin and private property rights issues; and23
6051 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis battled breast cancer three24
6152 times: In 2014, during the 2018 legislative session, and finally throughout25
6253 2019; and26
6354 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis is survived by her six children27
6455 and fourteen grandchildren; and28
6556 WHEREAS, Representative Lewis was a devoted public servant29
6657 who will be remembered for her hard work, dedication, and30
6758 accomplishments; now, therefore,31
6859 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-third32
6960 General Assembly of the State of Colorado:33

7162 -2- That, in the death of Kimmi J. Lewis, the people of the State of1
7263 Colorado have lost a dedicated public servant and outstanding citizen, and2
7364 that we, the members of the Colorado House of Representatives, do3
7465 hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of her4
7566 family and pay tribute to a woman who served her state well and5
7667 faithfully.6
