12	12		ONCERNING HONORING GOLD STAR FAMILIES.101
13	13		WHEREAS, Since the Revolutionary War, more than one million1
14	14		American soldiers have died in battle and military conflicts; their2
15	15		families, who have endured these losses and the accompanying grief, are3
16	16		known as Gold Star Families; and4
17	17		WHEREAS, Gold Star Families were named for the practice of5
18	18		families hanging service banners in the windows of their homes, with a6
19	19		star for each family member serving in the Armed Forces: Deep blue stars7
20	20		were displayed for each living member serving, and they were replaced8
21	21		with gold stars if the loved one was killed in action serving our country9
22	22		and protecting our freedom; and10
23	23		WHEREAS, Grace Darling Seibold founded the American Gold11
24	24		Star Mothers in 1928; her son, George, was serving in World War I, and,12

50	44		WHEREAS, Since 1936, Gold Star Mother's Day has been5
51	45		honored, through presidential proclamation, as the last Sunday of each6
52	46		September; and7
53	47		WHEREAS, The acts of heroism and the stories of courage of8
54	48		fallen soldiers are forever remembered in the minds and hearts of their9
55	49		families; and10
56	50		WHEREAS, While national monuments and memorials serve as11
57	51		strong visible reminders for the service members who made the ultimate12
58	52		sacrifice in service to our nation, Gold Star Families are a living legacy13
59	53		of each fallen soldier and can help us all remember and honor these14
60	54		heroes by name; and15
61	55		WHEREAS, Long after the battles have ended, as our stars and16
62	56		stripes of liberty fly, the families who have at home a folded flag and an17
63	57		empty seat at the table deserve our respect and our support; now,18
64	58		therefore,19
65	59		Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the20
66	60		Seventy-fourth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate21
67	61		concurring herein:22
68	62		That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, honor23
69	63		the pride and the pain of the parents, partners, children, and siblings of24
70	64		our fallen heroes and recognize the families of these proud patriots with25
71	65		an expression of profound gratitude and respect.26
72	66		Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent27
73	67		to the commanders of the American Legion Posts in Colorado; the28
74	68		commanders of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Colorado; the29
75	69		commanders of Colorado's active military bases; the Pikes Peak Chapter30
76	70		of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.; the Denver Chapter of Gold Star31
77	71		Wives of America, Inc.; and the Colorado chapters of the Blue Star32
