1414 WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo was originally launched as a1
1515 United States Army cargo ship in 1944 but was transferred to the United2
1616 States Navy and renamed the U.S.S. Pueblo in 1966; and3
1717 WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo was named for the city of Pueblo,4
1818 Colorado, and the county of Pueblo, Colorado, and was the third ship in5
1919 the naval fleet to bear the name Pueblo; and6
2020 WHEREAS, After leaving Japan in early January 1968 on an7
2121 intelligence mission, the U.S.S. Pueblo was attacked by the North Korean8
2222 military on January 23, 1968; and9

4838 was killed during the attack, and 80 crew members and two civilian5
4939 oceanographers were captured and held for 11 months by the North6

5141 WHEREAS, This year marks the fifty-seventh anniversary of8
5242 North Korea's attack on the U.S.S. Pueblo and her crew; and9
5343 WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo is still in commission in the10
5444 United States Navy but continues to be held by the North Korean11
5545 government and is currently in a museum in Pyongyang, North Korea;12
5646 now, therefore,13
5747 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth14
5848 General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:15
5949 (1) That we, the members of the General Assembly, recognize the16
6050 bravery and sacrifice of the crew of the U.S.S. Pueblo;17
6151 (2) That we take pride in the fact that the U.S.S. Pueblo bears the18
6252 name of a city and a county in Colorado, and, therefore, the citizens of19
6353 Colorado should be aware of the incident that occurred with the U.S.S.20
6454 Pueblo 57 years ago;21
6555 (3) That we continue the call for Kim Jong Un and the North22
6656 Korean government to return the U.S.S. Pueblo to the people of the23
6757 United States; and24
6858 (4) That we designate January 23 of each year as "U.S.S. Pueblo25
6959 Day", a day to remember and honor the brave crew of the U.S.S. Pueblo.26
7060 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent27
7161 to President Donald J.Trump; Governor Jared Polis; and the members of28
7262 Colorado's Congressional delegation.29
