WHEREAS, More than 58,000 members of the United States1 Armed Forces, including 623 Coloradans, lost their lives in the Vietnam2 War, and more than 300,000 Americans were wounded; in addition, more3 than 1,500 members of the United States Armed Forces are listed as4 prisoners of war or missing in action in the Vietnam War and remain5 unaccounted for, including 24 Coloradans; and6 WHEREAS, According to the United States Department of7 Veterans Affairs, more than 6 million veterans of the United States8 Armed Forces who served during the Vietnam era are still alive today,9 including, as of 2020, an estimate of more than 116,000 Coloradans; and10 WHEREAS, Formal acknowledgment of Vietnam War veterans11 is as important now as ever, not only for the veterans who served but for12 all citizens; bipartisan legislation signed in 2017 permanently enshrines13 March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day; and14 WHEREAS, April 30, 2025, marks the 50th anniversary of the fall15 of the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon to the North Vietnamese Army16 and the effective end of the Vietnam War; now, therefore,17 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth18 General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:19 20 That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, hereby:21 (1) Honor the service and sacrifices of Colorado military veterans22 who served in the Vietnam War alongside South Vietnamese soldiers;23 (2) Recognize the challenges faced by many veterans, both while24 serving in the Vietnam War and upon returning home;25 (3) Express our appreciation for the fortitude of Colorado26 veterans; their activism on behalf of fellow veterans; their patriotism;27 their accomplishments and contributions; and the leadership they have28 shown their families, community organizations, and the state; and29 (4) Encourage all Coloradans to remember the sacrifices made by30 Vietnam War veterans.31 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent32 to Maj. Gen. Laura Clellan, the Adjutant General of Colorado and33 1014 -2- Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans1 Affairs; the United Veterans Coalition of Colorado; Project Sanctuary;2 the President of the United States Donald J.
