22	22		Currently, a member of the Colorado state patrol must be bonded
23	23		by a surety company or must be insured with third-party crime insurance.
24	24		The bill creates an exception to the bonding or third-party insurance
25	25		requirement if the Colorado
26	26		state patrol is self-insured with the Colorado
27	27		state office of risk management and is eligible to be compensated from
28	28		the state self-insured property fund.

45	42		SECTION 1. In Colorado Revised Statutes, 24-33.5-208, amend2
46	43		(1) introductory portion; and add (2) as follows:3
47	44		24-33.5-208. Bonds - exception. (1) E
48	45		XCEPT AS PROVIDED IN4
49	46		SUBSECTION (2) OF THIS SECTION, the members of the Colorado state5
50	47		patrol shall be required to give bond to the state in the amount indicated6
51	48		in this section, to be approved and paid for by the state. The bonds shall7
52	49		be issued by a surety company authorized to do business in the state in the8
53	50		following amounts:9

61	58		SECTION 2. Act subject to petition - effective date. This act15
62	59		takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day following the expiration of the16
63	60		ninety-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly; except17
64	61		that, if a referendum petition is filed pursuant to section 1 (3) of article V18
65	62		of the state constitution against this act or an item, section, or part of this19
66	63		act within such period, then the act, item, section, or part will not take20
67	64		effect unless approved by the people at the general election to be held in21
68	65		November 2026 and, in such case, will take effect on the date of the22
69	66		official declaration of the vote thereon by the governor.23
