1919 emboldened radical left Democrats", and told rally attendees "If you don't4
2020 fight like hell, you're not gonna have a country anymore"; and5
2121 WHEREAS, Following President Trump's speech at The Ellipse,6
2222 rally attendees marched to the United States Capitol and many began7
2323 rioting, with official FBI estimates concluding that between 2,000 and8
2424 2,500 people forcibly and illegally breached the Capitol, in what many9
2525 scholars have described as an "attempted self-coup" and "an10

6659 WHEREAS, Multiple insurrectionists were later charged with, or23
6760 convicted of, illegally carrying firearms during the attack; and24

6962 coordination of the insurrection between the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers,26
7063 and Three Percenters, which are organizations that have been cited as27
7164 extremist groups by both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the28

7366 WHEREAS, One Capitol Police officer died from a stroke brought30
7467 on by the injuries he sustained from multiple assaults by insurrectionists;31

7770 -2- WHEREAS, Four Capitol Police officers who defended the1
7871 Capitol later died by suicide; and2
7972 WHEREAS, At least 174 Capitol Police officers were injured, 153
8073 of whom required hospitalization; and4
8174 WHEREAS, $2.7 million in damages were caused to the Capitol5
8275 building and grounds; and6
8376 WHEREAS, Following a request from District of Columbia Mayor7
8477 Muriel Bowser, 1,100 Washington D.C. National Guardsmen were called8
8578 up to restore peace and security to the Capitol and its grounds; and9
8679 WHEREAS, on January 20, 2025, President Trump pardoned, or10
8780 commuted the sentences for, all insurrectionists who were convicted of11
8881 crimes committed during the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States12
8982 Capitol and ensured that cases were dismissed for those who faced13
9083 charges or were under investigation for participation in the attack; and14
9184 WHEREAS, The rule of law, respect for the results of a free and15
9285 fair election, and freedom from political violence are foundational16
9386 cornerstones of the United States Constitution and core tenets of freedom17
9487 and the American way of life; and18
9588 WHEREAS, Those pardons erode the rule of law and signal an19
9689 acceptance of political violence, so long as the violence was committed20
9790 by those who support President Trump; and21
9891 WHEREAS, Such acceptance desecrates the service and sacrifice22
9992 of those who have defended the Constitution against such enemies; now,23
10093 therefore,24
10194 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly25
10295 of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: 26
10396 (1) That the Seventy-fifth Colorado General Assembly hereby27
10497 condemns the pardons of those involved in the January 6, 2021,28
10598 insurrection against the United States of America; and29
10699 (2) That the Seventy-fifth Colorado General Assembly further30
107100 condemns the firing of dedicated, selfless FBI agents assigned to said31
108101 insurrection cases, who committed their careers to the defense of our32

111104 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent2
112105 to Governor Jared Polis and the members of Colorado's congressional3
