1212 ONCERNING THE RECOGNITION OF LATINO/A ADVOCACY DAY 2025.101
1313 WHEREAS, Latino/a Advocacy Day celebrates 19 years of1
1414 mobilizing Latinas and Latinos from across Colorado, an annual event2
1515 that has helped amplify more than 5,400 Latina and Latino voices to3
1616 address the structural inequities that have historically affected the Latina4
1717 and Latino community; and5
1818 WHEREAS, In 2006, following the passage of anti-immigrant6
1919 federal legislation and an anti-immigrant special legislative session in7
2020 Colorado, a pro-immigrant justice movement swept the nation, including8
2121 in Colorado. Community organizations led by local Latina and Latino9
2222 activists convened the first ever Latino/a Advocacy Day in Denver in10
2323 2007 to hold policymakers accountable, advocate for better public11
2424 policies, and grow the Latina and Latino community's power and12
2525 influence inside the state capitol; and13

4438 themselves at the intersection of anti-immigrant attacks from the federal2
4539 government, including indiscriminate mass deportations violently3
4640 separating Colorado immigrant families, as well as attempts to bring back4
4741 2006-era anti-immigrant legislation during this legislative session; and5
4842 WHEREAS, Latinas and Latinos constitute the largest nonwhite6
4943 demographic group in Colorado, at 22.7% of the population; and7
5044 WHEREAS, Latinas and Latinos remain among the most impacted8
5145 people when assessing the adverse outcomes of inequitable health care,9
5246 housing, education, and economic opportunity; and10
5347 WHEREAS, Involving Latinas and Latinos in the policy-making11
5448 process ensures that the voices and lived experiences of all Coloradans12
5549 are respected and honored; and13
5650 WHEREAS, Community efforts like Latino/a Advocacy Day help14
5751 create better policies that impact the daily lives of all people in our state;15
5852 now, therefore,16
5953 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly17
6054 of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:18
6155 (1) That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly,19
6256 recognize the achievements of Latinas and Latinos and honor their20
6357 contributions to Colorado's long history of political engagement and their21
6458 role in the policy-making process;22
6559 (2) That we pay tribute to past and current Latino/a Advocacy Day23
6660 participants who have traveled to the Colorado State Capitol from across24
6761 Colorado to ensure representation and the just treatment of Latino/a25
6862 communities in Colorado; and26
6963 (3) That we devote ourselves to creating a Colorado that will one27
7064 day work for all, regardless of immigration status, in the Colorado28
7165 General Assembly.29
7266 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent30
7367 to the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive31
7468 Rights (COLOR) and Voces Unidas de las MontaƱas, the conveners of32
7569 the 2025 Latino/a Advocacy Day.33
