Dashes through the words or numbers indicate deletions from existing law. and as an import source; and1 WHEREAS, On behalf of the state of Colorado, Lieutenant2 Governor Dianne Primavera led a trade and investment promotion3 delegation to Taiwan in November 2024, along with officials of the4 Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the5 Colorado Department of Agriculture, and a Colorado delegation of6 economic development professionals and industry leaders from the state,7 who explored opportunities with Taiwan in high-tech industries including8 aerospace, agriculture, and semiconductors; and9 WHEREAS, Negotiations for a fair and reciprocal bilateral trade10 agreement between Taiwan and the United States are an important step11 toward further strengthening of bilateral trade and mutual investment12 between Colorado and Taiwan; and13 WHEREAS, Pressure from the People's Republic of China has14 excluded Taiwan from full and effective membership in several15 international organizations; and16 WHEREAS, The People's Republic of China continues to threaten17 the sovereignty of Taiwan on a daily basis; and18 WHEREAS, Taiwan, as a responsible stakeholder in the19 international community, is seeking to meaningfully participate in the20 United Nations, the World Health Organization, the United Nations21 Framework Convention on Climate Change, the International Criminal22 Police Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization, and23 the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity launched by the24 United States; now, therefore,25 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly26 of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:27 That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly:28 (1) Strongly support Taiwan's sovereignty and vibrant democracy29 and celebrate the 42nd anniversary of sister-state relations with Taiwan; 30 (2) Strongly support further strengthening of Colorado-Taiwan31 trade relations and academic exchanges;32 016 -2- (3) Strongly support the signing of the Agreement on Avoidance1 of Double Taxation between the United States and Taiwan to further2 bilateral investment activities; and3 (4) Strongly support Taiwan's inclusion in international4 organizations, which are significant to the health, safety, and well-being5 of its people and the world.6 Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Joint Resolution be7 sent to Director General Bill Huang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural8 Office in Denver.9 016 -3-
