AN ACT CONCERNING THE SALE OR POSSESSION OF DRUGS NEAR SCHOOLS AND DAY CARE CENTERS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That sections 21a-267, 21a-278a and 21a-279 of the general statutes be amended to reduce from one thousand five hundred feet to three hundred feet the area around a school or day care center in which a person is subject to an enhanced penalty for the sale or possession of controlled substances or drug paraphernalia and to provide that such enhanced penalty is applicable only if the sale or possession occurs during the regular school hours of such school or the operating hours of such day care center. Statement of Purpose: To provide equity in criminal sentencing by revising the school and day care drug zone law that disproportionately affects inner city youth.
