2121 AN ACT REQUIRING THE SENTENCING OF NONVIOLENT OFFENDERS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE COSTS OF INCARCERATION VERSUS ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION.

2323 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

2525 That the general statutes be amended to provide that prior to the sentencing of a person convicted of a nonviolent offense, the prosecutor shall provide the sentencing judge with information on the estimated costs of the various sentencing alternatives available to the judge including the cost of incarceration as contrasted with the cost of community-based alternatives to incarceration.
