AN ACT CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A ROADSIDE MEMORIAL SIGN PROGRAM IN MEMORY OF PERSONS WHO DIE AS A RESULT OF INJURIES SUSTAINED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2011) The Commissioner of Transportation shall establish a roadside memorial sign program for the purchase, erection and maintenance of signs, in memory of persons who die as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Such program shall authorize a member of the immediate family of any such person to purchase a sign from the department that bears the name of such person. The department shall erect such signs in a manner and location to be determined by the department and shall be responsible for the maintenance of such signs. The purchaser of such sign shall be responsible for all costs, including reasonable administrative costs, incurred by the department for the erection and maintenance of such sign.

Statement of Purpose:
