AN ACT AUTHORIZING MUNICIPALITIES TO OPERATE INTERSECTION SAFETY CAMERA SYSTEMS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to allow a municipality to adopt and enforce an ordinance to regulate the placement and use of intersection safety systems within the municipal boundaries; that such ordinance may provide a fine for a violation of its provisions; that a portion of the revenues from fines may be used to defray the cost of the installation, operation, and maintenance of an intersection safety system and the remaining funds shall be distributed as follows: Seventy per cent shall be allocated to the municipality in which the intersection safety system is located, and thirty per cent shall be deposited in the state's General Fund, and that (1) the recording of a violation of any such ordinance on a driving record, (2) the use of a violation of an ordinance to determine rates for motor vehicle insurance, or (3) the assessment of points under the point system by the Department of Motor Vehicles for a violation of an ordinance, shall be prohibited.

Statement of Purpose: 

To authorize municipalities to operate intersection safety camera systems.
