AN ACT CONCERNING THE REQUISITE NUMBER OF POULTRY FOR CERTAIN APPROVED FOOD SOURCES UNDER THE PUBLIC HEALTH CODE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2011) (a) A food service establishment, as defined in section 19-13-B42 of the regulations of Connecticut state agencies, may purchase shell eggs from unregulated sources that are not inspected by the Department of Agriculture provided such shell eggs: (1) As determined by the Commissioner of Agriculture, otherwise meet the same standards as those shell eggs from commercial, regulated sources inspected according to federal and state law, and (2) are received clean and sound and are graded in accordance with the provisions of chapter 423 of the general statutes. 

(b) The Commissioner of Public Health shall amend the Public Health Code to conform with the provisions of subsection (a) of this section.

Statement of Purpose: 

To enable shell egg producers with fewer than five hundred birds to be approved food sources for food service establishments in the state.
