2421 AN ACT CONCERNING HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS OF MEDICARE RECIPIENTS.

2623 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

28-Section 1. (Effective July 1, 2011) The Commissioner of Public Health shall study the admission procedures used by hospitals when treating Medicare recipients for episodes of care extending beyond a period of twenty-four hours. The commissioner shall submit, in accordance with section 11-4a of the general statutes, findings and recommendations to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to aging and public health not later than January 1, 2012.

25+That chapter 368v of the general statutes be amended to provide that any hospital that is engaged in the care and treatment of a Medicare recipient shall be deemed to have admitted such recipient to the hospital in any situation where the care and treatment of the individual during an episode of care extends beyond a period of twenty-four hours.
