AN ACT CONCERNING THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT AND DIVISION OF PUBLIC DEFENDER SERVICES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 14 of the general statutes be amended to (1) exempt from disclosure any documents retained by a public defender or special public defender pertaining to the legal representation of an indigent client, (2) exempt from disclosure the personnel or medical file concerning an employee of the Division of Public Defender Services, and (3) exempt any member of the Division of Public Defender Services or special assistant public defender from paying the fee required in section 1-212 of the general statutes for any copy obtained in the performance of such member's or defender's duties.

Statement of Purpose: 

To exempt certain documents retained or concerning public defenders from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act and to exempt public defenders from paying a fee for copies obtained under said act.
