2929 AN ACT ESTABLISHING A DIVISION OF STATE ACCOUNTABILITY AND INVESTIGATIONS.

3131 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

3333 That chapter 23 of the general statutes be amended to establish a Division of State Accountability and Investigations within the office of the Auditors of Public Accounts, which shall, (1) be staffed by two attorneys transferred from the Office of the Attorney General, (2) within available appropriations, assist the auditors in the detection, prevention and investigation of fraud, waste and abuse in the management of state government, state employees and state property and the investigation of whistleblower complaints, and (3) be funded by a portion of any civil or criminal fines or documented savings resulting from its investigation of fraud, waste and abuse or whistleblower complaints.

3737 To eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in state government and improve the processing of whistleblower complaints by transferring current staff located in the Office of the Attorney General into a Division of State Accountability and Investigations within the office of the Auditors of Public Accounts.
