AN ACT CONCERNING THE HIRING OF PRIVATE DETECTIVES BY MUNICIPALITIES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 7-283 of the general statutes be amended to increase the amount of money that may be spent by a municipality on hiring a private detective from five hundred to two thousand dollars without specific appropriation, and to eliminate the provision requiring application to state police for assistance first and replace such requirement with a provision that requires the town to notify state police of the target of the investigation and wait five days for a response from the state police.

Statement of Purpose: 

To modernize the law regarding the hiring of private detectives by municipalities.
