AN ACT CONCERNING THE PRACTICE OF OPTICIANRY IN THE STATE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective from passage) The Commissioner of Public Health, in consultation with the Commissioner of Consumer Protection, shall study the feasibility of allowing licensed opticians to provide optical services beyond the confines of a registered optical establishment, office or store. Such study shall minimally examine the feasibility of allowing licensed opticians to provide in-home services for the benefit of persons who are confronted with transportation barriers when accessing health care services. On or before January 1, 2012, the Commissioner of Public Health shall report, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to public health on the results of such study.

Statement of Purpose: 

To require the Commissioner of Public Health to study the feasibility of allowing licensed opticians to engage in their profession beyond the confines of a registered optical establishment, office or store.
