January Session, 2013

LCO No. 1699

Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH

Introduced by:

REP. MEGNA, 97th Dist.

(By Request)

AN ACT CONCERNING TOBACCO BARS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 19a-342 of the general statutes be amended to provide that, to be included in the definition of "tobacco bar" and be exempt from the indoor smoking prohibition, a business shall obtain not less than fifteen per cent of its annual sales revenue from the sale of tobacco products, be registered with the local health department and the area in which smoking is permitted shall have a ventilation system that is separate from the ventilation system in the public area of the facility and the area in which employees work.

Statement of Purpose:

To protect the health of the public and employees of facilities in which smoking is permitted and to limit the ability of a tobacco bar to be a restaurant, bar and entertainment facility in which the public can smoke, which is contrary to the prohibition on smoking in bars and restaurants.
