1224 AN ACT CONCERNING GRIEVANCE COMMITTEES IN NURSING HOME FACILITIES.

1426 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

1628 Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2013) (a) Each nursing home facility, as defined in section 19a-521 of the general statutes, shall establish a grievance policy to ensure that resident grievances are resolved in a timely manner. The grievance policy shall allow residents of the nursing home facility to elect to have grievances resolved by the grievance committee established pursuant to subsection (b) of this section. If a resident presenting a grievance does not elect to have the grievance resolved by the grievance committee, the administrator of the nursing home facility shall resolve the grievance in a timely manner.

18-(b) Each nursing home facility may establish a grievance committee consisting of two employees of the nursing home facility appointed by the nursing home administrator and one resident elected annually by the residents of the nursing home facility. The grievance committee shall (1) review and suggest changes, as necessary, to the grievance policy, and (2) resolve grievances that residents elect to have resolved by the grievance committee in a timely manner.
