AN ACT CONCERNING THE DUTY OF A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TO WARN OF POTENTIAL VIOLENT CONDUCT OF A PATIENT. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 899 of the general statutes be amended to require mental health professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists, marital and family therapists, social workers and licensed professional counselors to notify a law enforcement official when any such professional's patient has communicated a serious threat to inflict imminent physical injury on a reasonably identifiable third party. Statement of Purpose: To promote public safety by enacting a statutory duty for a mental health professional to warn law enforcement officials when a patient has communicated a serious threat to inflict imminent physical injury on a reasonably identifiable third party.
