AN ACT CONCERNING THE REGULATION OF FIREARMS, ASSAULT WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended with respect to firearms, assault weapons and ammunition to: (1) Strengthen record retention requirements; (2) limit the number of firearms that a person may legally purchase or otherwise receive in a single transaction or within a single period of time; (3) require the same background checks prior to the purchase of a firearm at a gun show as are required prior to the purchase of a firearm from a federally-licensed firearm dealer; (4) limit the sale of ammunition to persons who are legally eligible to possess or receive firearms; (5) designate a weapon as an assault weapon under section 53-202a of the general statutes if such weapon has only one functional feature of an assault weapon, rather than two of the functional and nonfunctional features currently provided; and (6) prohibit the possession of certain ammunition feeding devices that accept a large number of rounds.

Statement of Purpose:

To enact comprehensive controls on the possession and purchase of firearms, assault weapons and ammunition.
