1224 AN ACT CONCERNING THE USE OF MEDICAID FUNDS TO PAY HEALTH INSURANCE COSTS FOR MEDICALLY INDIGENT STUDENTS.

1426 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

16-Section 1. (Effective July 1, 2013) The Department of Social Services, in collaboration with the Board of Regents for Higher Education and The University of Connecticut, shall study the effectiveness of requiring state Medicaid to pay the cost of premiums for health insurance sponsored by a constituent unit, as defined in section 10a-1 of the general statutes, and provide supplemental health insurance coverage for students enrolled in a constituent unit who are (1) not covered by any other health insurance plan, and (2) eligible for state Medicaid benefits. Not later than January 1, 2014, said department, board and university shall jointly report on such study, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to higher education and human services.
