2424 AN ACT CONCERNING JUDICIAL MARSHALS.

2626 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

2828 Section 1. Subsection (b) of section 6-32d of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective January 1, 2014):

3030 (b) (1) The Judicial Department shall employ judicial marshals for prisoner custody and transportation responsibilities pursuant to this section. The Chief Court Administrator shall establish employment standards and implement appropriate training programs to [assure] ensure secure prisoner custody and transportation. On and after October 1, 2011, the Judicial Department shall make available on its Internet web site a written summary of such employment standards, including, but not limited to, the standards for selection, continuance of employment and promotion for such judicial marshals. On and after January 1, 2014, the Judicial Department may not hire any person for, or promote any person to, the position of lead judicial marshal or supervisory judicial marshal, or any subsequent corresponding positions established by the Judicial Department, unless such person has passed a written examination for such promotion. The Judicial Department shall develop and update a written examination for promotion to such positions after consultation with at least three judicial marshals who have supervisory responsibility over other judicial marshals and three judicial marshals who do not have such supervisory responsibility.

3232 (2) Any property used by the sheriffs prior to December 1, 2000, for prisoner transportation shall be transferred to the Judicial Department.

3838 (b) Any property used by the sheriffs prior to December 1, 2000, for court security shall be transferred to the Judicial Department. The Chief Court Administrator shall be responsible for the custody, care and control of courthouse facilities.
