2424 AN ACT CONCERNING CADMIUM LEVELS IN CHILDREN'S JEWELRY.

2626 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

2828 Section 1. Section 21a-12d of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2013):

3030 (a) As used in this section:

3232 (1) "Cadmium" means elemental cadmium and any compounds or alloys which contain cadmium; and

3434 (2) "Children's jewelry" means any jewelry, including charms, keychains, bracelets, pendants, necklaces, earrings or rings, and any component thereof, that is designed or intended to be worn or used by children twelve years of age or younger.

3636 (b) [Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, on] On and after [July] October 1, 2014, no person shall manufacture, sell, offer for sale or distribute in this state any children's jewelry that contains cadmium at more than .0075 per cent by weight.

3838 (c) The provisions of this section may be enforced, within available appropriations, by the Commissioner of Consumer Protection.
