2424 AN ACT ESTABLISHING "RED ZONES" ON CONNECTICUT'S HIGHWAYS.

2626 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

2828 Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2014) (a) As used in this section, "red zone" means an area on any state highway, designated by red painted lanes, where two lanes of traffic merge into one lane of traffic.

3030 (b) On or before January 1, 2015, the Department of Transportation shall establish red zones on all state highways.

3232 (c) On and after January 1, 2015, except in an emergency, (1) the operator of any vehicle in a red zone shall promptly merge out of the red zone at the earliest time such merge is safe, and (2) no operator of a motor vehicle shall enter a red zone for the purpose of bypassing other motor vehicles.

3434 (d) Any person who violates any provision of subsection (c) of this section shall have committed an infraction.
