AN ACT ESTABLISHING A TUITION WAIVER PROGRAM AT THE REGIONAL COMMUNITY-TECHNICAL COLLEGES FOR HIGHLY QUALIFIED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 10a of the general statutes be amended to establish a tuition waiver program pursuant to which highly qualified high school students may receive a tuition waiver at a regional community-technical college upon high school graduation if such students enroll in a degree program in an area identified by the Department of Economic and Community Development as having a shortage of qualified employees in Connecticut, provided such students maintain a certain grade point average while enrolled at a regional community-technical college in order to maintain the tuition waiver.

Statement of Purpose:

To provide relief for families from the high cost of a college education and to encourage Connecticut students to pursue careers in which the state has a shortage of qualified employees.
