AN ACT CONCERNING WAGE GARNISHMENT FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF CREDIT CARD DEBT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsection (f) of section 52-367a of the general statutes be amended to decrease the maximum part of aggregate weekly earnings that can be garnished for settlement of credit card debt from twenty-five per cent to a graduated schedule of (1) fifteen per cent for the first two years, (2) ten per cent for the following five years, and (3) five per cent thereafter for any remaining debt.

Statement of Purpose: 

To help credit card debtors avoid bankruptcy.
