AN ACT REQUIRING LEGISLATIVE APPROVAL FOR THE INCREASE OF GRANTS UNDER THE CITIZENS' ELECTION PROGRAM.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsection (d) of section 9-705 of the general statutes, concerning the adjustment, in accordance with any change in the consumer price index, of grants awarded under the Citizens' Election Program, be amended to (1) require the approval of a majority of each chamber of the General Assembly for any increase in the amount of such grants, and (2) provide that any increase in the amount of such grants shall not exceed the amount of any change in the consumer price index for the time period since the amount of such grants was last adjusted.

Statement of Purpose: 

To require an affirmative vote of the General Assembly in order to increase the amount of the grants provided under the Citizens' Election Program.
