AN ACT ENCOURAGING PARTICIPATION IN THE ELECTORAL PROCESS BY CONNECTICUT'S YOUTH.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 9 of the general statutes be amended to permit any citizen who attains the age of sixteen years to apply for admission as an elector, provided such citizen shall not be admitted as an elector until (1) such citizen attains the age of eighteen years, and (2) such citizen's application for admission is approved by the registrars of voters or town clerk of the town of residence of such citizen, provided, such citizen may otherwise qualify to be and be admitted as an elector under the provisions of section 9-431.

Statement of Purpose: 

To encourage civic engagement among Connecticut's youth by permitting them to preregister to vote at the age of sixteen years.
