AN ACT REQUIRING AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS TO COMPLY WITH PRINCIPLES OF SMART GROWTH AND HISTORIC DISTRICT REGULATIONS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to require affordable housing developments: (1) To redevelop and revitalize regional centers and mixed-use areas where supporting infrastructure exists or is proposed; (2) to expand housing opportunities and design choices to accommodate a variety of household types and needs; (3) to concentrate development around transportation nodes and along major transportation corridors to support the viability of transportation options and land reuse; (4) to conserve and restore the natural environment, cultural and historical resources, and traditional rural lands; (5) to protect environmental assets critical to public health and safety; (6) to integrate planning across all levels of government to address issues on a local, regional and state-wide basis; and (7) for developments within an historic district, to require such developments to be subject to historic district regulations. Statement of Purpose: To require affordable housing developments to comply with smart growth principles and, where applicable, historic district regulations.
