AN ACT INCREASING PENALTIES FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That subsection (b) of section 53-247 of the general statutes be amended to increase the penalty from a class D felony to a class C felony in the case of malicious and intentional maiming or killing of an animal and to provide that any person found guilty of such crime serve a mandatory one-year minimum prison sentence.
Statement of Purpose:
To increase the penalties for animal cruelty.
