AN ACT CONCERNING LIMITATIONS ON AN ATTORNEY'S ABILITY TO ARTICULATE IN LUMP SUMS OR MATHEMATICAL FORMULAE THE AMOUNT OF PAST AND FUTURE NONECONOMIC DAMAGES CLAIMED TO BE RECOVERABLE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 52-216b of the general statutes be amended to provide that during closing arguments an attorney may not articulate in lump sums or mathematical formulae the amount of past and future noneconomic damages claimed to be recoverable.

Statement of Purpose: 

To prohibit attorneys from articulating in closing arguments the pecuniary amount of damages claimed to be recoverable by reference to a lump sum amount or a mathematical formula.
