AN ACT CONCERNING THE APPOINTMENT OF A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR IN THE CASE OF A DEATH INVOLVING A POLICE OFFICER.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapters 886 and 960 of the general statutes be amended to provide that the Chief State's Attorney shall appoint a special prosecutor in the case of a grand jury investigating a death involving a police officer.
Statement of Purpose:
To ensure transparency, equality and confidence in a process that protects the interests of officers and alleged victims by eliminating the perception or possibility of a local prosecutor bias or conflict of interest.
