2424 AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROVISIONS OF EVIDENCE-BASED SUPPORTS FOR STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA.

2626 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

2828 That (1) chapter 164 of the general statutes be amended to define dyslexia; (2) section 10-148b of the general statutes be amended to include training regarding the detection and recognition of, and evidence-based interventions for, students with dyslexia in the program of professional development for teachers; (3) section 10-14t of the general statutes be amended to include screenings and assessments for dyslexia for students in grades kindergarten to three, inclusive; (4) chapter 164 of the general statutes be amended to establish a requirement for evidence-based interventions for students with dyslexia by a dyslexia therapist; (5) chapter 163 of the general statutes be amended to create a dyslexia specialist position within the Department of Education and require the department to create a dyslexia resource guide for use by local and regional boards of education; and (6) subsection (f) of section 10-145a of the general statutes be amended to require that each literacy skills course offered as part of a program of teacher preparation be a credit-bearing course reflecting a minimum of one and one-half credit and twelve dedicated seat hours.
