WITKOS, 8th Dist. SEN. MCLACHLAN, 24th Dist. AN ACT REDUCING GRANTS FOR CERTAIN CANDIDATES UNDER THE CITIZENS' ELECTION PROGRAM. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 9-705 of the general statutes be amended to provide that if the only opponent of a participating major party candidate who is nominated for election to an office is an eligible minor party candidate, then such major party candidate shall receive: (1) One-third of the amount of the general election campaign grant if such minor party fails to qualify for a grant; (2) two-thirds of the amount of the general election campaign grant if such minor party qualifies to receive one-third of the amount of the general election campaign grant; and (3) the full amount of the general election campaign grant if such minor party qualifies to receive two-thirds of the amount of the general election campaign grant. Statement of Purpose: To reduce the amount of Citizens' Election Program grants to major party candidates whose only opposition is from a minor party.
