LCO No. 2787

Referred to Committee on GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION AND ELECTIONS

Introduced by:

SEN. FLEXER, 29th Dist.

AN ACT CONCERNING PARTY PRIMARIES AND PETITIONING CANDIDATE DEADLINES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 9-453i of the general statutes be amended to move the submission deadline for a nominating petition proposing a candidate for an office to be filled at an election from the ninetieth day preceding the day of such election to before a party primary held on (1) the second Tuesday in August in the year in which such election is held if a state election, and (2) the fifty-sixth day preceding the day of such election if a municipal election.

Statement of Purpose:

To change the deadline for petitioning candidates in order to prohibit unsuccessful primary candidates from still seeking placement on the ballot.
