AN ACT PROVIDING A MEDICAL OPTION OF COMPASSIONATE AID IN DYING FOR TERMINALLY ILL ADULTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 368w of the general statutes be amended to specify that, with appropriate protections, at the request of a terminally ill patient who is mentally competent, a physician may prescribe a medication that such patient can self-ingest when and if such patient chooses to avoid prolonged suffering and bring about his or her own peaceful death.

Statement of Purpose: 

To allow a terminally ill person who is mentally competent the option to receive a prescription for medication that he or she can self-ingest to bring about a peaceful death.
